Hays Education are working in partnership with a well-established and ambitious secondary school in North London to recruit an experienced Head of MFL. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a committed Languages department within a school that values academic excellence, inclusivity, and high-quality teaching and learning.
Your new role
As Head of MFL, you will lead the delivery of French and Spanish across Key Stages 3 and 4, with the opportunity to oversee and develop Key Stage 5 provision. You will be responsible for the strategic direction of the department, curriculum planning, and driving improvements in student attainment and engagement in languages.Key responsibilities include:
Leading and managing the MFL department, including staff development and performance
Planning and delivering an ambitious and engaging curriculum in French and Spanish
Monitoring student progress and implementing effective intervention strategies
Promoting a strong language-learning culture across the school
Contributing to whole-school improvement priorities and initiatives
What you'll need to succeed
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Proven experience teaching French and/or Spanish at secondary level (KS3-KS4 essential; KS5 desirable)
Previous leadership experience or readiness to step into a leadership role
Strong subject knowledge and passion for languages
Ability to inspire both students and staff, driving high standards of achievement
