Senior Estimator / Bid Manager - Data Centres
Location: Homebased with National Travel
Salary: £80,000 per annum + Car allowance + Bonus + Private healthcare (after 6mths)
Working Hours: 08:00 – 17:00, Monday to Friday
Role Overview
EMCOR UK is accelerating its growth in the data centre sector, and we’re looking for a dynamic, results-driven Bid Manager with estimating experience to help shape our future. You will manage the bid lifecycle from pre-qualification through to tender submission, ensuring commercially robust, innovative, and client-focused solutions within our Design – Build – Manage – Maintain service model. You will liaise with clients, designers, and operational teams to develop value-for-money proposals for mission critical infrastructure solutions and support the evolution of our integrated offering with sector-leading safety, quality, and standards.
Responsibilities
* Bid Management – Lead and coordinate the full bid process from initial opportunity assessment through to submission, ensuring client requirements are met and internal governance is followed.
* Estimating – Prepare and review cost estimates, budgets, and tender price submissions for data centre projects, using market knowledge, supplier input, and historical data to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
* Collaboration – Work with pre-construction, design, operations, commercial, and procurement teams to produce cohesive, fully integrated bid proposals.
* Client Engagement – Build relationships with prospective and existing clients, understand their needs, and position EMCOR UK’s solutions as the best fit.
* Solution Development – Support the evolution of our design–build–manage–maintain proposition for data centres, shaping technical solutions that meet client expectations and EMCOR UK capabilities.
* Documentation & Presentation – Create clear, concise bid documentation and persuasive presentations communicating technical details and value propositions.
* Market Intelligence – Stay informed on market trends, client drivers, and competitor strategies to inform bid strategy and pricing.
* Risk Management – Identify and assess commercial and technical risks in bids and propose mitigation measures aligned with risk policies.
* Reporting – Provide regular updates on bid pipeline, win/loss analysis, and key market insights to the Director of Data Centres.
* Line management – Manage the estimating team where applicable.
Qualifications
* Significant demonstrable experience leading estimating and bid activity (both minor works and major projects) within a critical infrastructure environment, including M&E, civils, fit-out, asset life cycle replacement and energy—ideally within telecoms and data centres, £0.5m–£15m value range.
* Proven ability to manage multiple bids to tight deadlines with precision.
* Strong interpersonal skills to work across disciplines and build relationships at all levels.
* Deep understanding of commercial terms, risk management, and pricing strategies in the built environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to present complex technical and commercial concepts clearly and persuasively.
* Attention to detail in cost models, tender documentation, and bid submissions.
* Ability to contribute to the continuous improvement of the design–build–manage–maintain model.
* Understanding of the full lifecycle—design, build, manage, and maintain—especially within data centres and telecoms; degree qualified or equivalent experience with 5+ years of sector-specific experience.
* Familiar with current estimating methods, commercial governance, and project management systems.
* Customer-focused, relationship-building, and consultative mindset.
* Organised, proactive, and results-oriented, with a solutions-focused approach.
* Technically qualified to a minimum of HNC (or equivalent).
