Could you be a SEND Tutorat Sense College?
We’re looking for a passionate and creative SEND teacher to join our professional team as a Special Education Needs and Disability Tutor at our College Centre based in Streatley. We welcome applications from experienced SEND teachers as well as those seeking development opportunities.
The successful applicants will work with a small group of students aged 16-25 with various learning, sensory, and physical disabilities. You will create individual learning plans based on assessments and outcomes specified in the students' Education, Health and Care Plans. You will plan and deliver lessons, assess, and report on students' progress. The SEND Tutor will lead a classroom team, delivering learning using specialist teaching approaches and resources. You will supervise and coach support staff to ensure high-quality teaching and monitor performance. You will be part of a wider team of SEND Tutors, sharing best practices and supporting each other. Sense is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of learners and expects all staff to share this commitment. You will be required to work within the DfE guidelines for Keeping Children Safe in Education and adhere to Safer Recruitment practices.
Key responsibilities:
1. Plan and deliver effective learning programmes for a small group of SEND students aged 16-19.
2. Lead on an area of the curriculum, ensuring it is current, relevant, and meets students' needs.
3. Conduct specialist assessments to determine key learning objectives for students.
4. Collaborate with the Vice Principal of Curriculum and Quality to mentor new and developing staff members.
5. Perform observations and learning walks to support quality improvement and mentoring.
6. Deliver training on your lead area and others to enhance staff skills and knowledge.
7. Represent the college at EHCP reviews, learning reviews with parents, taster days, open days, and transition events.
Your required skills and experiences:
1. Higher-level teaching qualification (e.g., Certificate in Education or PGCE Level 5).
2. Diploma in English and Maths Level 2.
3. Understanding of the needs of young people with various special educational needs.
4. Ability to use assessments to plan and review learning.
5. Ability to model professional and positive behaviour for staff and students.
6. Effective communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
7. Experience supporting students with positive behavioural strategies.
8. Experience in a teaching environment and working within an education team.
