Financial Controller
Construction Business | Central London (5 days office-based)
Robert Half is partnerting with a growing construction business operating across London is seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to take full ownership of the day-to-day finance function.
This is a highly visible, operational role, working closely with senior leadership, commercial (QS) teams and site teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening month-end reporting, tightening controls, and providing clear financial insight to support decision-making across live projects.
Key Responsibilities
Subcontractor Payments & CIS
* End-to-end management of subcontractor payments
* Reconciliation of subcontractor liabilities against the liabilities schedule
* Review and validation of subcontractor documentation for accuracy and compliance
* Checking payment certificates, ensuring correct treatment of retentions, discounts, and CIS splits
* Posting subcontractor costs and certificates into Eque2
* Logging, managing, and reporting CIS payments
* Processing payment runs in Sage and uploading to the bank for approval
Team & Process Oversight
* Day-to-day management of a finance team member, ensuring weekly and monthly tasks are completed accurately and on time
* Maintaining strong financial controls, processes, and reporting discipline
* Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and visibility across the finance function
Working Pattern
* Fully office-based role, 5 days per week (Monday-Friday)
* Candidates must be comfortable working on-site due to the hands-on nature of the role and close collaboration with operational and commercial teams

Ideal Candidate Profile
* QBE or professionally qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA)
* Strong experience within construction finance
* Confident user of Eque2 and Sage
* Solid understanding of CIS, subcontractor accounting, CVR, and project cost control
* Hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a growing SME environment
