Site: ACT2 Pilot Plant
Salary: from £35,000 upwards
The Role
Take ownership of mechanical design projects for our pilot plant and special projects in a truly unique role. We’re looking for a confident engineer, whether an ambitious graduate with solid industry experience or a seasoned mechanical design professional, who can independently drive projects and bring concepts to life.
You’ll shape design, installation, and optimisation efforts, collaborating with operational, commercial and chemical teams to ensure systems work seamlessly. Every day brings the chance to innovate, see your ideas in action, and contribute directly to the UK’s Net Zero journey.

What You’ll Do
 * Lead mechanical design and development for high-impact special projects and the ACT2 pilot plant.
 * Work closely with operational, chemical engineering, and commercial teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.
 * Create detailed drawings, specifications, and models using Autodesk and other design software.
 * Select, source, and manage mechanical equipment and suppliers.
 * Oversee installation, commissioning, and optimisation of mechanical systems to ensure efficiency and reliability.
 * Support preventive maintenance programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
 * Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and feedback to foster their growth.
 * Take full ownership of projects, driving them from concept through to delivery and impact.

What We’re Looking For
 * Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
 * Proven industry experience in mechanical design.
 * Hands‑on experience in mechanical engineering, working directly with equipment, systems, or installations.
 * Proficiency with Autodesk and other design/modelling software.
 * Solid understanding of piping, pumping, filtering, and general mechanical systems.
 * Motivated to take ownership, drive projects independently, and see concepts through from design to delivery.
 * Eager to learn from and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
 * Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication.
