Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Principal Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Planner to enhance our growing expertise. The ideal candidate will have experience in Scotland, a comprehensive understanding of Scottish policy and relevant legislation, and the ability to engage with stakeholders and clients. The role involves delivering a range of EIA, wider planning and environmental consenting services, and managing relatively complex projects to a consistently high standard, while contributing to company growth and promoting Dalcour Maclaren’s values.
Responsibilities
* Lead or manage a small team to deliver a range of environmental planning services, focusing on technical EIA and Planning specialisms for projects and sites with varying levels of environmental sensitivity. This includes feasibility assessments, screening, scoping, planning, and Environmental Outcomes Reports (EORs).
* Coordinate EIA projects in line with relevant Environmental and Planning guidance, legislation, and policy as applied in the UK. Provide advice and prepare and deliver a range of EIA reports for all stages, from initial screening through to EORs, for projects subject to permitted development, planning applications, and NSIPs planning.
* Stay informed about future changes in policy and ensure compliance with evolving Environmental and Planning regulations.
* Develop and maintain strong working relationships with a range of internal and external project stakeholders, including client teams, technical specialists, and Local Authority planning officers, while drawing on specialist colleagues and attending relevant meetings and site visits.
* Report directly to the client, manage and take ownership of own and team performance in meeting deadlines and objectives, and use a proactive approach and high level initiative to drive progress and continuously improve delivery.
* Assist the wider Environmental and Planning team on other projects and support business development, using experienced skills to provide guidance on complex cases, seek efficiency gains, and identify new work opportunities.
* Maintain own knowledge and skills via company and wider CPD, taking responsibility for professional learning and progress.
* Monitor, support, and coordinate the work and development of more junior staff, providing constructive line management, delegating tasks effectively, and fostering a positive team culture.
* Participate in and actively support company groups, initiatives, events and socials, promoting Dalcour Maclaren’s values and maintaining a positive attitude within the workplace.
* Carry out work in compliance with relevant legal, regulatory, contractual, and organisational requirements and policies.
Qualifications
* Relevant EIA and/or planning degree with chartered membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and/or the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
* Strong analytical and presentation skills, with excellent written and verbal communication; experience in preparing fee proposals and collaborating on multi‑disciplinary projects.
* Commercial awareness and the ability to understand client needs and negotiate effectively with stakeholders.
* Excellent communicator, eager to learn and develop professionally.
* Good knowledge of GIS systems and environmental technical disciplines.
* Highly self‑motivated, organised, and a proven team player with a can‑do attitude.
* Full UK driving licence.
