Senior Ecologist / Ecology Project Manager
Location: Polegate, East Sussex; Home based with 2 days office-based
Salary: £45,000.00 - £50,000.00 per annum, depending on experience, qualifications, and expertise
Summary
An industry leader in site clearance, tree surgery, fencing, landscaping, grounds maintenance, and ecological consultancy for commercial and public sector clients across the South East offers a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Ecologist to join their team.
In this role, you'll manage all ecological aspects of projects, ensuring best practices are embedded throughout processes to deliver high standards. You'll assist in preparing bids and tenders, manage site surveys, and approve ecology proposals and reports for technical robustness and branding.
Role responsibilities may include:
1. Providing specialist ecological knowledge to team members and managing large/complex projects
2. Advising clients on safeguarding ecology on various commercial sites and best practices
3. Creating habitat and bat surveys and generating presentable reports for clients
4. Undertaking surveys, including dusk/dawn and night works, ensuring paperwork compliance
5. Managing on-site ecological issues, including animal relocation with appropriate licenses, and advising on mitigation where protected species are involved
6. Creating RAMS and coordinating resources for ecological works
7. Analyzing, evaluating, interpreting, and presenting ecological data
8. Technical report writing, including ecological appraisals, impact assessments, and license applications
9. Serving as an Ecological Clerk of Works on construction projects
10. Working on exciting projects with support for professional development in protected species licensing
To be successful, you'll have:
1. Experience managing large/complex ecological projects within a consultancy
2. A passion for mentoring team members
3. Thorough knowledge of UK survey methodologies, legislation, and best practices
4. Experience conducting ecological appraisals, protected species surveys, and habitat surveys
5. Report writing experience for PEA, impact assessments, and licenses
6. A degree in Ecology, Environmental or Earth Sciences, or a related field
7. CIEEM membership
8. Eligibility for CEnv/CEcol
9. Protected species survey license (desirable)
10. Valid driving license and willingness to travel and work nights as necessary
