Environment Agency is seeking a strategic leader to tackle crime in the waste sector. The role focuses on developing and delivering a Strategy to Reduce Offending in the Waste Sector, with collaboration across Defra, industry, and internal teams. The position is national in scope with a flexible/hybrid working arrangement.
Responsibilities
* Take a lead role in reviewing and delivering the Strategy to Reduce Offending in the Waste Sector.
* Engage extensively with internal and external stakeholders to shape strategy, including Defra, industry, and operational teams.
* Utilise data to ensure the strategy is evidence-based and measurable.
* Develop control plans to translate strategy into meaningful action across the organisation.
* Provide leadership on strategic communications and external engagement to deter waste crime.
* Deliver accurate and accessible information to inform, engage, and foster understanding across diverse audiences.

* Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues and partners in dispersed and external networks.
* Skilled at persuading others and influencing outcomes from a senior audience.
* Confident to challenge current ways of working and to build creative, efficient solutions.

* Experience in regulation and/or enforcement; broad understanding of the waste industry.
* Aware of strategic landscape challenges in tackling crime in the waste sector.
Additional information
You’ll join the Waste Crime team within Waste and Resources Regulation, part of the Environment Agency’s Environment and Business Directorate. The team provides strategic direction to reduce crime in the waste sector and uses evidence, expertise, and innovation to influence policy, legislation, and resource allocation.
Location: EA Office base; national role with flexible/hybrid working. Some travel and overnight stays may be required.
