This is a substantive appointment to the Urology Department in the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will join a centralised team of 12 Consultant Urologists who provide comprehensive general and specialist urological care to the population of Gloucestershire. We are seeking to appoint a Consultant in Pelvic Oncology. The candidate should be confident in local anaesthetic prostate biopsy, pelvic MDT clinics and management of prostate cancer. The post holder should have attended a dedicated fellowship for robot assisted pelvic surgery. In addition to the above it would be desirable to be independant with robot assisted prostatectomy, although mentorship can be offered.The role will include cystectomy and urinary diversion and the post holder should have experience of managing these patients. The role will include an oncall. Main duties of the job The purpose of this post is to provide and develop the general and specialist urology service for the residents of Gloucestershire and beyond; there is a very close working relationship with the Herefordshire Service. As a senior employee of the Trust the post-holder will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trusts patients. T he department of Urology are moving to dedicated outpatient facilities, where the ward, urology assessment unit and dedicated urology outpatients and fixed site lithotripter, will all be collocated. We already have outstanding equipment with new Xi dual console and X robots. In addition we have modern stacks and new plasma olympus resection equipment. Job responsibilities This post will help us develop a centre of excellence for prostate care. We already have an X and Xi for robotic cancer surgery. Over the next 3 months new dedicated urology outpatient facilities are planned. The job plan would include flexible cystosocpy clinics, local anaesthetic prostate biopsy clinics and haematuria clinic and a pelvic MDT clinic. The appointee would also have regular access to robotic theatres and day surgery theatre lists. The appointee would be expected to contribute to the oncall rota on a 1 in 11 ratio. The department is active in medical education, quality improvement and research the appointee would be expected to contribute. The candidate should help progress the already excellent service and in view of this we would be keep for candidates to have experience of day case robot assisted prostatectomy, self trial without catheter or robotic neobladder; as these are aspects of the service which we would like to develop. Person Specification Qualifications Essential • Full GMC registration • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) (proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview) CESR or European Community Rights • MBBS or equivalent • FRCS or equivalent • FRCS (Urol) or equivalent Desirable • Additional degrees, diplomas or postgraduate thesis relevant to the specialty Clinical experience Essential • Experience in General Urology • Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion on problems in urology. • Ability to offer an expert clinical opinion on a range of both elective and emergency problems in urology • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients • Validated logbook indicating adequate and appropriate level of specialist urological surgical operative experience • Local anaesthetic prostate biopsy • Fellowship in Pelvic Oncology • Competent in day case TURP & TURBT.
