Overview
We are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to lead our utilities capability with a track record of contributing to the successful delivery of complex multi‑disciplinary infrastructure and highways projects from scheme development through to design and build. You will help drive safety, innovation, standardisation and automation across projects, delivering great outcomes for clients and communities.
Responsibilities
* Lead, develop and deliver the Division’s utility capability across a wide range of infrastructure projects, mainly within the highways sector.
* Manage utility design/diversion as part of highway & public transport infrastructure.
* Promote and ensure adherence to the health and safety policy and procedures.
* Maintain a general knowledge of technical engineering codes, particularly NRSWA, HAUC and NJUG.
* Ensure compliance with utility company standard requirements.
* Manage discrete design packages and multi‑disciplinary design teams and client‑facing activities.
* Identify bespoke engineering solutions to reduce the scope of utility diversions, driving efficiencies and cost savings.
* Provide utility peer review for major infrastructure schemes.
* Support business development activities and build a network of clients.
* Show technical leadership and provide expertise and advice.
* Assist in the training and development of team members.
* Control task programme and budgets.
* Present technical advice to clients and stakeholders.
* Contribute to bids and tenders where utilities present a major risk to project delivery.
* Mentor early‑career staff.
Candidate Specification
Essential
* Degree in Civil Engineering or alternative qualification (HNC / HND) in a relevant subject.
* Professional membership in the highways sector (e.g., Institution of Civil Engineers, MCIHT).
* Experience applying CDM requirements as a designer and a thorough understanding of health, safety, wellbeing and EDI matters.
* In‑depth knowledge of NRSWA with the ability to manage delivery of utility diversions from C2 to C9 process.
* Experience identifying, managing and resolving multi‑disciplinary interfaces on major projects.
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civils 3D.
* Ability to deliver to demanding schedules and targets.
Desirable
* Demonstrated leadership, effective communication and organisational skills, with the ability to motivate staff and maintain accurate records.
* Willingness to travel for short assignments in the UK or overseas.
* Experience with engineering forms of contract (e.g., NEC3 and 4).
* Experience using Navisworks, Autodesk Infraworks, Bentley Open Roads and ProjectWise.
* Experience with UK highway design codes and standards (DMRB, Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works).
