The Role This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding teacher who is ready to take the next step in their career by supporting the leadership of a thriving Science department. Working closely with the Head of Science, the successful candidate will help lead the strategic direction of the department, contributing to curriculum development, teaching and learning, and staff development. You will play a key role in delivering the department’s improvement plan, lead on an identified area (such as a specific science discipline, key stage, or curriculum strand), and ensure the highest quality of learning and progress for all students. This role is ideal for an experienced classroom practitioner with high expectations, ambition, and a commitment to continuous improvement. About the Department Science is a popular and successful subject at Kinver High School. At Key Stage 4, students follow either the Trilogy (Combined) or Triple Science pathway, and at Key Stage 5 we offer Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Forensics. Our dedicated team of eight teachers and one technician work collaboratively to provide high-quality learning experiences and strong outcomes. The department achieves above national results at KS4 (Progress 8 0.48) and an ALPs score of 2 at KS5. We are seeking a colleague who will help sustain these high standards and inspire both staff and students to continue striving for excellence. Key Responsibilities Support the Head of Science in providing dynamic leadership and management of the department. Lead on a specific science subject, key stage, or area of curriculum development as part of the Department Improvement Plan. Model and promote outstanding teaching and learning across the department. Implement and evaluate schemes of learning and assessments that ensure progress for all learners. Contribute to departmental self-evaluation and school improvement planning. Use data effectively to monitor, track, and improve student outcomes. Support and mentor colleagues to develop high-quality classroom practice. Promote high expectations of behaviour, achievement, and engagement across the department. Work collaboratively within the department and across the Trust to share best practice and raise standards. Person Specification Essential: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a relevant degree. Strong subject knowledge across the science disciplines. Excellent classroom practice and the ability to teach across Key Stages 3 and 4. Evidence of contribution to raising standards and improving teaching and learning. Ability to use data to inform planning and improve outcomes. Excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students. Desirable: Experience of teaching Science at Key Stage 5. Experience in leading an aspect of curriculum or departmental development.
