Director of Photonics Strategy

The Director of Photonics Strategy role focuses on evaluating the direction of multiple competing technologies within Photonics within the semiconductor sector. The Director of Photonics Strategy will lead long‑term technical and commercial strategy for photonics technologies. The Director of Photonics Strategy will work across academic and international collaborations, government advisory and investor relations to shape future capability.
Responsibilities
Develop the strategy for photonics technologies.
Assess market trends, technology roadmaps and future capability needs.
Work with industry, universities and research centres on collaborative programmes
Define photonics investment priorities and long‑term technical direction
Lobby for developments related to photonics growth
Oversee programmes focused on photonics R&D, skills development and manufacturing capability
Represent the organisation at external engagements, industry forums and technical reviews
Prepare clear recommendations to senior stakeholders.
Requirements
Deep experience in photonics, optical components or PIC based optical technologies
Strong understanding of the global photonics landscape
Background in strategy, technology road mapping or senior‑level technical leadership
Ability to influence stakeholders across industry, academia and government
Experience delivering multi‑partner technology programmes
Excellent communication and decision‑making skills
