The postholder will join a team of 8 Consultants providing ENT services to Shropshire and parts of Powys, with a combined catchment population of approximately 560,000. The team includes two full-time substantive otologist consultants who offer mentorship and support. Outpatient care is delivered for both adults and pediatrics at both sites, with day case and inpatient care at Telford.
The role involves routine otology, participation in the BAHD MDT clinic (bone-anchored hearing device), and providing complex pediatric hearing clinics. Routine pediatric capacity is also welcomed.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide otology care for children and adults in outpatient and theatre settings.
2. Participate in bi-monthly complex hearing clinics (BAHD) with multidisciplinary team members including otology consultants, senior implant audiologists, and Ear Care nurses.
3. Attend weekly or fortnightly specialist children's hearing clinics with a Teacher of the Deaf for complex cases.
4. Participate in a general on-call ENT service (1 in 9) covering both hospitals.
5. Contribute to teaching and training of junior staff.
6. Develop clinical skills, especially in assessing and managing acutely ill patients.
7. Work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
8. Meet clinical and quality targets set nationally and locally.
9. Follow patients through their clinical pathways.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) provides acute hospital services for around half a million people across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales. The catchment includes picturesque areas from the Cambrian Mountains to Newport and the Black Country, encompassing towns such as Bridgnorth, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Whitchurch, Newport, Telford, Wellington, Newtown, and Welshpool.
Main service locations are the Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) in Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) in Shrewsbury, about 20 minutes apart, providing a wide range of acute services including emergency care, outpatient clinics, diagnostics, inpatient and critical care.
