C&I Lead / Principal Engineer Location: Glasgow – 3 days per week in office / 2 days from home Rate: £55–£60 per hour (PAYE) Holiday Pay Hours: 40 hours per week Contract Duration: 12 Months Sector: Onshore Oil & Gas (Gas Transmission) Overview We are currently recruiting for a C&I Lead / Principal Engineer to support a major project within the onshore oil & gas / gas transmission sector. This position will act as the functional Lead Engineer, responsible for delivering the Control & Instrumentation scope across both FEED and Detailed Design phases. You will lead a team of engineers and designers across the UK and globally, ensuring high-quality, compliant, and timely delivery of all C&I engineering activities. Key Responsibilities Act as the C&I Lead Engineer on a major onshore oil & gas project Lead and coordinate UK and global engineering teams to deliver project scope Manage delivery of C&I engineering activities across FEED and Detailed Design phases Develop and oversee key engineering deliverables, including: Control system architecture and design Instrument specifications and datasheets Loop diagrams and hook-ups Cause & effect charts Functional Design Specifications (FDS) Ensure compliance with client specifications, industry standards, and company procedures Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers and designers Interface with clients, project management, and multidisciplinary teams Support HAZOPs, design reviews, and technical meetings Monitor and manage budget, schedule, and project performance Ensure designs consider safety, constructability, and operabilitySkills & Experience Essential Extensive experience in Control & Instrumentation Engineering Design on medium to large capital projects, from concept through to start-up Strong experience within the onshore oil & gas / gas transmission sector Proven experience operating at Lead or Principal Engineer level Demonstrable experience within an EPC / contracting environment Strong leadership experience managing multi-discipline and global teamsTechnical Expertise Competent in field instrumentation and analyser specification, requisitioning, and supplier management Strong experience with technical bid analysis and vendor evaluation Expertise in DCS, PLC, and SIS systems, including full lifecycle delivery (TÜV Functional Safety Engineer desirable) Experience in Hazardous Area (ATEX) instrumentation design and implementation Knowledge of electrical protection methodologies Experience integrating C&I requirements into mechanical packages Proficient in P&ID development and review Experience in sizing flow devices, control valves, and relief devicesProject Delivery & Commercial Awareness Competent in project execution using recognised design tools and methodologies Experience in budget and schedule management, monitoring, and reporting Strong understanding of design safety, risk management, and constructability Ability to ensure compliance with company and industry standards Experience working with global integrated delivery teamsDesirable Experience on National Gas Transmission (NGT) projects G35 Approver experience Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)Get in touch now If you're seeking a new opportunity and think you have the relevant skills and experience our client is looking for, then this could be the opportunity for you, so apply now or contact Stuart Cooper via LinkedIn.
