About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to build and deploy high‑impact ML solutions across our product lines. You’ll own the end‑to‑end cycle of model design, experimentation, productionisation and impact measurement in a cross‑functional squad.
Responsibilities
* Work on recommender systems and behaviour modelling (e.g., multi‑armed bandits, uplift modelling, causal inference) tailored for the Cleo product.
* Deploy models into production using Cleo’s in‑house MLOps platform, maintaining data pipelines, monitoring, and scalability.
* Collaborate closely with backend engineers, data analysts and product managers to drive product decisions.
* Identify and lead technical initiatives that solve previously unknown or poorly understood problems, influencing multiple squads.
* Mentor colleagues on model selection, architecture, and evaluation practices.
Key Projects (Past Year)
* Built recommender systems for in‑app prompts and notifications.
* Developed a multi‑armed bandit testing framework for rapid experimentation.
* Created AI agents that extract insights from transaction data.
* Optimised payment success rates and cost‑efficiency for customers and business.
* Built intent classifiers to filter and prioritise user conversations.
* Designed models that surface suitable actions to users in contextual conversations.
Qualifications
* Experience in personalisation, recommender systems and/or behavioural modelling.
* Proficiency in Python, SQL, and production tooling (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines).
* Strong grasp of probability, statistics, and experimental design.
* Strategic thinking to turn research into production solutions.
* Excellent communication skills to partner with Product, Engineering and Commercial teams.
* Evidence of industry‑leading contributions (publications, talks, open‑source projects).
* Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent commercial experience.
Nice to Have
* Experience with additional programming languages such as Java, Scala or C++.
* Further industry‑leading contributions similar to those listed above.
