Description
About the OpportunityA well-established and trusted auto electrical and mechanical workshop in Ashburton is seeking a capable and motivated Operations Manager to join their team. With a busy workshop made up of a team of 12 technicians and admin staff, the business specialises in auto electrical diagnostics, mechanical repairs, fleet servicing, and 4x4 upgrades across a wide range of vehicles and equipment.This is a great opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with a skilled team, and is ready to take the lead in day-to-day operations and business growth.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and support a team of technicians and admin staff in a busy workshop environment
* Oversee daily scheduling, job allocation, and workflow management
* Manage procurement, parts supply, and inventory
* Monitor workshop performance including productive hours, job efficiency, and technician utilisation
* Manage debtors and support the admin team with invoicing and payment follow-ups when required
* Maintain high standards of service quality, customer satisfaction, and workshop efficiency
* Ensure compliance with health & safety procedures and industry regulations
* Liaise with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery
* Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial customers, ensuring their ongoing needs are met
* Visit potential commercial clients to promote workshop services and identify new business opportunities
* Drive ongoing improvement across systems, processes, and team culture
What We’re Looking For
* 4+ years in a leadership, supervisory, or operations management role
* Solid technical understanding of vehicle systems and workshop processes
* Proficiency with job tracking software and stock control systems
* Strong communication, leadership, and organisational skills
* Full Class 1 Driver’s Licence (Forklift licence a bonus)
Bonus Skills (Not Essential, but Great to Have)
* Trade qualification in Automotive, Auto Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
* Experience with 4x4, agricultural, or fleet vehicles
* Familiarity with diagnostic tools and OEM systems
* Ability to balance workshop operations with supply chain needs
