About the role
Kickstart your career as a Pump Engineer with GAP Group's award‑winning Apprenticeship Programme! Earn while you learn, gaining hands‑on experience and a nationally recognised qualification, all whilst working with industry‑leading equipment. This is a 3‑year course. Sessions run Monday to Friday, 08:00‑17:00 with no weekend working required.
Responsibilities
* Learn how to service and repair water & sewage pumps.
* Learn how to replace parts, identify faults and strip engines.
* Study everything from basic engineering skills to the latest technological advancements in electro‑hydraulics and computerised control systems.
Training & Apprenticeship Details
The Apprenticeship will last 3 years and includes combined block‑release training at National Construction College and on‑site experience with our expert engineers. You will spend 9 weeks per year at National Construction College learning all the necessary skills you will need to succeed, divided into 3×3‑week blocks. All transportation, accommodation and food are provided during college periods. Outside college, you will be on‑site gaining hands‑on experience and knowledge from our engineers. After completing Year 1 you will be placed on the National Minimum Wage rate appropriate to your age group for your role.
Qualifications
* 4 National 4's at Grade C or above.
* A keen interest in Plant Technology.
* High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
* Good communication skills.
Compensation
Apprentices under 18 joining the programme will work a maximum of 39 hours per week with a starting salary of £16,224 per annum. Apprentices over 18 will work a maximum of 42.5 hours per week with a starting salary of £17,860 per annum.
Future Prospects
Once the Apprentice has completed their 3 years service and is fully qualified, you can progress within the company to a Pump Engineer position. There are many avenues to take from here, including progressing to Regional Pump Engineer, Workshop Foreman and even Depot Manager one day!
