Oversee and drive the technical excellence for all departments.
The role requires an individual capable of managing and developing technical processes, contributing to product improvement, and supporting internal and external stakeholders through clear technical documentation and informed decision-making.
Responsibilities
1. Drawings and Models:
Use 2D drawings and 3D CAD models to support sales, in-house and external manufacturers.
AutoCAD – Drawings for customer sign off, in house and external manufacturer.
1. Bills of Materials (BOMs): Produce and update a high number of BOMs to support manufacturing and procurement.
2. Problem Diagnosis & Resolution: Identify root causes and implement effective technical solutions.
Supporting all areas of the business with technical diagnosis – Contacting suppliers, understanding spec sheets and data to resolve technical issues whether it be a component incompatibility, faulty component or wiring error.
1. Technical Documentation: Create and maintain accurate technical files for all product lines (Project Alice).
3D CAD – STL files (Exported from inventor) – versatile file type that allows models to be opened in a wide range of software but prevents models being broken apart – Helps protect IP.
LDT's – Edit LDT's – Used by lighting designers and downloaded by customers for lighting designs.
BIM – Using Inventor to export models to BIM and in some cases outsource BIM file creation to have luminaire data attached.
2D DWG – AutoCAD / Illustrator – Shows dimensions and outline image
Spec sheets - InDesign – Includes part codes, descriptions, data and images.
Declaration of conformity – InDesign – Products Synergy sells both manufactured and rebranded require a DOC to sell on the UK market and should have available data to back up the claims.
Develop installation instructions – Produce for manufactured items.
1. Product & Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives across products, processes, and supply chains.
Working with all areas of the business to understand pain points and discover solutions as well as paying attention to customer complaints received through sales e.g. light leakage, swirling etc.
1. Project Management: Lead projects from concept through to completion, coordinating cross-functional teams and ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and to specification.
2. Data Analysis: Interpret technical and operational data to guide decisions and improvements.
Understanding component spec sheets – Compatibility, troubleshooting

Reviewing product and component sales data
1. Part Numbering: Generate and manage part codes for components and assemblies.
2. Reporting: Maintain structured reporting on product changes, usage trends and reporting for regulatory bodies.
3. Regulatory Compliance: Stay current with relevant British Standards and lighting regulations; communicate and implement necessary changes.
4. Any other duties assigned relative to the role.
Skills
* Proven experience in LED lighting, electrical, or electronics engineering (minimum 5 years preferred).
* Strong knowledge of LED systems, drivers, optics, heat management, and control protocols (DALI, DMX, Zigbee, Bluetooth Mesh, etc.).
* Solid understanding of product development lifecycle, from concept through to market launch.
* Experience with lighting standards and certifications (UL, CE, IEC, RoHS, ENEC).
* Familiarity with lighting design software (Dialux, Relux).
* Experience using CAD and CAD tools.
* Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams.
* Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance technical requirements and commercial priorities.
* Strong communication skills, able to present complex solutions to non-technical clients and stakeholders.
Desirable (Not Essential)
* Experience in smart building technologies and IoT-enabled lighting systems.
* Knowledge of sustainability frameworks (LEED, WELL, BREEAM).
* Background in manufacturing, supply chain, or quality control.
