Don Baines is a 24‑beded ward providing nursing and therapy care to patients who have either had a stay in an acute hospital or may have been unwell at home and need a bit of help to avoid an admission to a big hospital. We aim to get people back on their feet so they can return to their home by ensuring their environment is safe and their abilities are optimised. We also accept patients who require complex discharge planning, palliative and end‑of‑life care.
You will need sound, up‑to‑date clinical skills, be reliable and have a flexible approach with a proactive leadership style. Whether you are experienced, looking for your first job or looking to return to practice, we will be happy to support and develop you in your career.
The post holder will be required to work flexibly on both day and night shifts.
As a staff nurse on the ward you will play an important part in the patients' recovery. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, you will have the opportunity to use and develop key skills, providing holistic assessment and patient care.
1. Contribute to care, observing, monitoring and recording patients’ progress while communicating and managing effectively any changes in their condition and planning their safe discharge.
2. Liaise with external partners and patients’ families, an important part of the role.
3. Engage in service provision and change.
4. Perform safe and effective review and referral to the appropriate member of the multidisciplinary team.
5. Effectively delegate and prioritise workload.
6. Maintain professional development to preserve the area of practice, as negotiated in supervision.
7. Maintain an awareness of health, safety and security risks.
