St Antony's RC School, part of Emmaus Catholic Academy Trust in Trafford, is seeking a dedicated Pastoral Manager to support the pastoral and safeguarding needs of 11‑16 year olds in a vibrant, forward‑thinking environment.
Responsibilities
* Leadership and Strategy
o Lead development and implementation of pastoral care strategies that align with school vision and values.
o Collaborate with senior leadership to identify and address key pastoral priorities.
o Provide line management and support for pastoral staff, including mentoring and professional development.
* Student Support
o Oversee provision of student support for emotional, social or behavioural challenges.
o Ensure effective systems to monitor and respond to student well‑being concerns, including safeguarding responsibilities.
o Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) or support DSL team where required.
* Policy and Compliance
o Develop, review and implement policies relating to pastoral care, safeguarding and behaviour management.
o Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and best practices in safeguarding and student welfare.
o Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with GDPR and school policies.
* Stakeholder Engagement
o Build strong relationships with students, parents and staff to promote mutual respect and understanding.
o Liaise with external agencies, including social services, mental health professionals and local authorities.
o Communicate effectively with parents and carers about student progress and well‑being.
* Reflection Room and On‑Call Duties
o Cover one period each day in the isolation room, arranging pupil work and managing behaviour.
o Support smooth operation of the isolation room, ensuring alignment with school policies.
o Manage day‑to‑day requirements of the reflection room.
o Support middle leaders in analysing data and identifying trends.
* Administrative and General Support
o Assist with administrative and support tasks under instruction of teaching/senior staff.
o Ensure accurate and timely updates of data, including C3 data, reflection, pastoral and curriculum data.
o Record and track confiscation of mobile phone usage and oversee management of PX information uploaded to LA.
o Support creation of packs for senior staff.
* Alternative Provision Placements
o Manage safeguarding responsibilities for alternative provision placements.
o Organise step‑out visits, provide work, set up extended work placements and conduct health and safety checks.
o Maintain engagement with schools and employers.
* Parental and Stakeholder Communication
o Serve as initial parental contact for Heads of Year during teaching periods.
o Increase parental engagement and improve student behaviour through effective communication.
o Cascade information to parents regarding school behavioural policies and procedures.
o Support HOY in organising parents' evenings and collate interim reports for stakeholders.
* Supervision and Student Engagement
o Supervise groups of pupils in non‑teaching situations to improve behaviour.
o Act as first point of contact for students with well‑being issues and ensure proper resolution.
* Behaviour Management
o Oversee implementation of the school's behaviour policy.
o Monitor and analyze behaviour trends and provide interventions to reduce suspensions.
o Lead restorative practices to resolve conflicts and promote positive relationships.
* Attendance and Punctuality
o Work closely with Senior Attendance Lead to monitor attendance and punctuality.
o Develop initiatives to promote high attendance and reduce persistent absenteeism.
* Mental Health and Well‑Being
o Identify specific support and interventions for students.
o Support referrals to Early Help agencies and act as point of contact for external agencies.
* Team Management
o Manage and support pastoral care staff, including form tutors, year heads and pastoral managers.
o Support induction of new staff and organise regular team meetings to review progress.
* Crisis Management
o Act as primary contact for critical incidents involving student welfare.
o Ensure effective plans for managing crises, including bereavements, disclosures and emergencies.
* Support for School Operations
o Plan and organise reward trips and parents' evenings.
o Assist in managing and recording all detention systems accurately.
o Support home‑school communication of sanctions, rewards or support.
o Support morning routines and record punctuality to school and lessons.
o Update staff handbook as required, including whole‑school detention rotas.
* Safeguarding and Compliance
o Make referrals to external agencies that support students and families.
o Ensure all documentation meets high standards and complies with safeguarding, child protection, health and safety and GDPR requirements.
o Support safeguarding team with day‑to‑day issues and collate vulnerable list for staff briefings.
* Additional Duties
o Cover for absent Heads of Year in their general duties.
o Assist in investigation of pastoral issues, including taking statements, reviewing CCTV and conducting restorative conversations.
o Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by Headteacher.

Qualifications
* Essential
o Educated to GCSE level (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
o Significant experience working in a pastoral care and/or safeguarding role.
o Experience of working in the education sector, particularly schools.
o Experience of developing and implementing policies.
o Well‑versed and experienced in behavioural management strategies.
o Experience of team/line management.
* Desirable
o Relevant qualifications or training in safeguarding, pastoral care or behavioural management.
