Job Summary:
Our banking sector is looking for someone who can conduct Shariah audits across all departments in line with the Shariah Audit Plan and any additional assignments from the Head of Shariah Compliance or the Shariah Supervisory Board, ensuring that key Shariah compliance risks are effectively managed.
These audits may cover various functions of the Bank, including but not limited to: IT and Information Security, Banking, Treasury and liquidity (including the Alternative Liquidity Facility), IHR, Risk Management, Finance, Compliance, Financial Crime, Outsourcing, Consumer Duty, and Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Audit Delivery:
Develop and implement Sharia Audit Plan. Manage Shariah audit projects end‑to‑end (planning to reporting), ensuring completion within the agreed time budget unless pre‑approved by the Head of Shariah Compliance.
Agree key milestones and project timelines with the Head of Shariah Compliance for inclusion in the Terms of Reference.
Perform all audit work in accordance with AAOIFI Audit, Accounting and Shariah Standards, and the Bank's Shariah Audit Policy and Procedures. This includes:
Preparing the Audit Planning Memorandum.
Documenting process flows, walk‑throughs and system notes.
Identifying and documenting Shariah risks and controls.
Designing audit programmes, sampling approaches, and test plans.
Maintaining a clear audit trail of testing and results.
Producing a Shariah Audit Report.
Working Papers & Reporting:
Ensure working papers are sufficiently detailed to support all factual issues raised in audit reports.
Identify weaknesses, evaluate risk and significance, and make constructive recommendations for improvement.
Produce concise, high‑quality Shariah Audit Reports in line with Shariah Audit procedures.
Stakeholder Management:
Build and maintain effective professional relationships with business areas, auditees, and the Shariah Supervisory Board.
Contribute to positive engagement that facilitates smooth and effective audit completion.
Planning & Oversight:
Contribute to the development of the annual Shariah Audit Plan, including identification of regulatory themes, value‑adding audit areas, and organisational pressure points.
Prepare quarterly and annual Shariah reporting (for CEO/Management Committee/Audit & Compliance Committee) in draft for review by the Head of Shariah Compliance and the Shariah Supervisory Board.
Proactively manage follow‑up of outstanding Shariah audit issues.
Continuous Improvement:
Support departmental initiatives relating to process improvements, best practices, and Quality Assurance Programmes.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge and continuing professional development, particularly regarding regulatory requirements relevant to the role and Shariah auditing procedures.
