About the role

Lead, Inspire & Make a Difference

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Charity Shop Manager to join our retail team, leading the day-to-day operations in our vibrant and welcoming furniture charity shop. You'll play a key role in driving sales and profitability, promoting our charity's mission, and delivering excellent customer service — all while making a real difference in your local community. You'll manage a small team that includes a dedicated group of volunteers. Together, you'll create a positive, inclusive, and productive shop environment where people love to work and shop.

What you'll do:

Lead, inspire, and support a diverse team of staff and volunteers

Maximise sales, donations, Gift Aid, and customer contributions

Ensure excellent stock management, merchandising, and shop presentation

Deliver brilliant customer service and resolve queries effectively

Take responsibility for cash handling, banking, and financial reporting

Maintain compliance with health & safety, safeguarding, and GDPR

Represent the charity positively within the local community

Contribute to fundraising campaigns and charity events

Provide cover or support to other shops as needed

What you'll need:

What matters most to us is your ability to lead a team, deliver results, and embody the values of our charity. If you bring energy, initiative, and a people-first approach, we want to hear from you. Experience in retail or charity shop management is ideal, but we're open to transferable skills too.

We're looking for someone with:

Retail management or supervisory experience (paid or voluntary)

A passion for customer service and community engagement

The ability to lead, motivate, and support a volunteer workforce

Strong organisation and problem-solving skills

A flexible, hands-on attitude and willingness to support other shops as needed

Knowledge of charity retail, Gift Aid, and donation processes (desirable)

Who we are:

Set in the tranquil grounds of Willen Lake, Willen Hospice is the leading provider of specialist palliative care in the Milton Keynes area. We offer round-the-clock, expert care to local patients with a life-limiting illness, both in their own homes and in our In-Patient Unit. Our passionate staff and volunteers make sure our care is personalised to each patient's needs and supports their loved ones too. We have a thriving Therapeutic & Wellbeing service providing counselling, physiotherapy, activity groups and more, and a specialist Lymphoedema service. As a registered charity, we raise vital funds through our dedicated Business Development team and our growing portfolio of high street and online shops, to ensure our care stays free of charge.

Join us in turning second-hand shopping into first-class support for our cause. If you're ready to take the next step in your retail career while making a real impact, we'd love to hear from you.
