Job overview

An exciting job opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and forward-thinking leader to be the Ward Manager for Falcon Ward at our St Peters Site. Falcon is a fast-paced general surgical ward. Where we care for all kinds of emergency and elective surgical patients' pre and post op.

We are a 31 bedded ward caring for patients under the following firms, Urology, Upper GI, Colorectal, Bariatric, Gynaecology and have a great MDT and Allied Health Professional teams to support us in the care of our patients.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

* To work according to the NMC Code of Conduct and other professional guidelines
* To be accountable for the twenty four hour care delivery and management of the ward, including the supervision of students.
* To provide a clear focus for clinical leadership and to be responsible for ensuring the provision of a high standard of holistic, patient-centred care
* To be accountable for co-ordinating patient care, the management of resources and performance of staff
* To be responsible and accountable for the Finance and Human Resources issues directly related to the ward /department
* To be responsible and accountable for the implementation of Audit, Quality and Risk Management initiatives
* To promote and participate in the implementation of the ASPH Nursing & Midwifery strategy and Core Standards and contribute towards achieving the Trust’s “Top 10” Objectives
* To maintain a visible presence in the ward /department, undertaking clinical work regularly (a minimum of 50% of contracted hours)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* To have made an effective contribution to reaching the Trust’s vision, strategic objectives and key work programs
* Evidence of consistent and sustained improvements in standards of practice and care in specialised area
* Evidence of staff development to meet patients' needs in specialised area of care.
* Evidence of contribution to the effectiveness and efficiency of care
* To participate in managing complex discharges and co-ordinate all relevant services to ensure timely, appropriate and safe discharges.
* To have made an effective positive impact on the patient’s experience whilst in hospital.


Person specification


Qualifications and Further Training

* Registered Nurse Part 1, 2 or relevant section of the register
* Teaching course
* Relevant Clinical Course
* Recognised Leadership course
