The Directorate of Estates is responsible for ‘providing outstanding work, study, research facilities, and facilities to enhance the student experience, on campus and online’.
This role will be part of the Estates Development team within Estates. Estates Development has the responsibility for delivering construction, infrastructure and other projects in line with the University’s Vision while protecting the overall campus masterplan.
This role is part of the Estates Development team, and will report to the Senior Programme Manager.
Main purpose of the role
The University is developing a wide ranging portfolio of refurbishment and relocation projects to improve and rationalise the campus for our students, staff and visitors. These projects are of strategic importance to relocate key services from outdated facilities and close/demolish the buildings to improve campus-wide efficiencies. These will be primarily progressed by the Estates Development team and the role will be intrinsic to the delivery of these working in partnership with the wider project team (users/architects/contractor etc). The postholder will be responsible for Space Planning activities from understanding and scoping user requirements, through to the relocation of teams into their new spaces.
The postholder is an integral part of Estates Development but will also support the small Space Planning team, liaising closely with Operations and other stakeholder teams to co-ordinate space change and enhancement activities and help drive forward the Integrated Infrastructure Plan. In addition, the role holder will also manage office/people relocations and identify and implement improvements to teaching and other spaces.
The postholder will be required to interact frequently with our internal customers which include colleagues in academic departments and professional services, deriving requirements, collecting and providing information and working collaboratively on space solutions.
You should be self motivated as well as physically fit and able to move around the campus carrying out audits, making changes to space layouts and accepting deliveries as directed by the Space Planners.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
1. Level 3 qualification. (Qualifications at this level include A levels. Please view the full list.) We also welcome applicants with equivalent non-UK qualifications or equivalent professional experience.
2. Lead the space changes identified in the campus masterplan, driving delivery of change and the agreed programmes of activity.
3. Be proactive in communicating with Academic departments on their space needs including; analysing space data, judging and assessing future requirements and creatively finding solutions whilst working within the Universities policies and procedures.
4. Due to the nature of the role it is anticipated that the successful candidate will need to be on campus for a minimum of three days per week.
