Senior Biomedical Scientist Blood Transfusion Lead | Private Hospital | Full-time, Permanent | Southampton
Spire Southampton Hospital are looking for a Senior Biomedical Scientist Blood Transfusion Lead.
To assist in the organisation, management and development of services within a specialised area of the pathology service, or across a range of services provided by the laboratory at Hub Hospital and support the provision of pathology services.
You will be responsible for leading in blood transfusion related changes and as a senior would be required to manage and support others in our blood sciences pathology team.

Duties and responsibilities:
1. Develop practice including investigation and reporting, within your areas of specialist expertise.
2. Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
3. Develop and evaluate the movement of laboratory specimens and blood.
4. Assist with research and development.
5. Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations, within your specialist area of expertise..
6. Acknowledge the risk of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) and understand own responsibility as agreed with line manager in the prevention and control of HCAI.
7. Ensure all staff working within the Blood Transfusion section of the department are trained and competent in the subject
8. Ensure Blood Transfusion services are ready for inspection by MHRA and UKAS at any point
9. Attend the hospital HTC committee
10. Raise Blood Transfusion Incidents in a timely manner in Datix, to the Pathology Manager and Director of Clinical Service at the relevant site
11. Develop practice in pathology investigation and reporting, within your specialist areas of expertise.
12. Analyse, interpret and report information and knowledge related to ideas and concepts.
13. Develop the movement of laboratory specimens, blood and tissues.
14. Develop practice in the application of technology for measuring and monitoring pathology investigations.
Who we're looking for:
15. Degree qualified, HNC Medical Laboratory Sciences or equivalent which would allow individual to be eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
16. Biomedical Scientist with the Health & Care Professions Council
17. At least 3 years blood transfusion experience
18. Experience in haematology and biochemistry is desirable, but not essential as training in these areas will be given.
Contract: Full-time permanent
Hours: A mixture of earlies, lates and weekends as part of a rota. 37.5 hours per week plus on call outside of these hours for which there are extra sessional standby payments.
