Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board wishes to appoint a Full time Substantive Consultant Surgeon with expertise in Lower GI (Colorectal) Surgery to join a busy Department of Surgery based at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Llandudno General Hospital.
We are looking forward to recruiting a consultant at Ysbyty Gwynedd & Llandudno General Hospital. For candidates with additional skills, there are opportunities available to develop skills in Robotic Assisted (Versius) Colorectal Resections.
Although the initial job plan has been designed for a full time ten sessions job, an alternative time-table could be considered for a successful candidate who would wish to work less than full time.
The successful appointee will be expected to provide a high-quality service in conjunction with the existing General Surgeons and hard working, highly motivated dedicated team of medical and nursing staff.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Duties and Responsibilities
The duties outlined below are not definitive and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The post holder will be expected to undertake the following duties equitable to their consultant colleagues:
- Provide a service of the highest quality.
- Work flexibly with colleagues to achieve the hospital agreed planned activity for in-patient and outpatient services.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings (MDT).
- Ensure appropriate standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence-based research and appraisal.
- Be familiar with the College curricula fo resident doctor training and contribute to their training requirements, including tutorials, on-the-job teaching, mentoring, appraisal and assessment.
- Participate in the medical education of medical students from North Wales, Cardiff and Swansea Medical schools.
- Play an active role in the organisation and delivery of undergraduate education at North Wales Medical School.
- Agree and annually review a job plan with the General Manager and Clinical Director/ Lead Clinician and participate in annual appraisal.
- Undertake all necessary administrative duties associated with the care of their patients.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- FRCS or equivalent - Colorectal
- Full GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview
- Royal College Surgeons - Train the Trainer or equivalent
- Formal Leadership and Management Qualification
Experience
- Wide experience in all aspects of General Surgery
- Prior specialist Colorectal training and Experience
- Understanding NHS management practices and how they are put into action
- Accredited to perform colonoscopy
- Experience in Low Rectal Cancer resection
- Training in and Experience of working with the CMR Versius Robotic Surgical system
- Training and experience in leadership and management
- Prior experience of working in the Welsh healthcare system
Teamwork
- Able to work well within an inter-disciplinary team setting
- Experience of participation in LGI MDT
Audit and Research
- Evidence of participation in audit
- Evidence of participation in research
- Completed audit projects
- Research based publication
Teaching
- Qualified and suitable for a role as Senior Clinical Lecturer
