Job Description
A rare opportunity has arisen to join one of the UK’s most established and financially secure industrial groups as a Senior Commercial Counsel. With a legacy spanning over two centuries, this privately held multinational operates across electrical infrastructure, smart city technologies, and sustainable real estate development.
The group employs around 1,800 people across five continents, with annual turnover exceeding £400 million. It is growing rapidly through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. Its mission is to enable the global shift to electrification and create a more sustainable built environment—making it a key player in the UK’s green transition.
This is a senior-level role within a high-performing in-house legal team, offering exposure to a broad range of commercial, corporate, and property matters. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders across multiple business units, providing strategic legal advice and helping shape the future of a group that blends heritage with innovation.
Key Responsibilities
* Advise on M&A, corporate, IP, IT, and litigation matters across the group’s industrial businesses.
* Support residential property development projects, excluding conveyancing and complex specialist real estate matters.
* Review tenders and contracts (sales and procurement) across group companies.
* Provide legal input on commercial risk, compliance, and dispute strategy.
* Manage external legal counsel to ensure timely, cost-effective advice.
* Ideally, advise on regulatory matters including international trade controls and data privacy.
Essential Criteria
* UK-qualified solicitor or barrister with 8–10 years PQE, including in-house experience.
* Strong commercial law background with experience in M&A, corporate, property, construction, IP, IT, and litigation.
* Ability to manage a varied workload in a fast-paced environment.
* Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
* Proven ability to deliver risk-based legal solutions that enable complex transactions.
Desirable Experience
* Familiarity with industry-specific regulations such as electricity distribution, treasury, and transfer pricing.
* Experience advising on international trade and data privacy law.
* Background in science or engineering (degree level).
