Job Title: Risk Advisor/Officer
Department: Governance / Compliance / Risk Management
Location: Huddersfield /On-site (College Campus)
Reports to: Vice Principal / Chief Operating Officer
Contract: 3-6 months /possible extension
Salary/Interim: £30,000k - £35,000 per annum(pro-rata)
Role Purpose
The Risk Advisor will support the college in identifying, assessing, and managing operational and strategic risks across all departments. This role ensures that risk management practices are embedded into day-to-day operations, support strategic decision-making, and contribute to a safe, compliant, and well-governed educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Risk Management
* Support the development and maintenance of the college’s strategic risk register.
* Provide analysis and insight on emerging sector risks, regulatory changes, and organisational vulnerabilities.
* Work with senior leadership to assess risk impact on college objectives and long-term planning.
* Prepare risk reports for executive leadership, governors, and committees.
Operational Risk Management
* Work with departments (academic, estates, HR, IT, safeguarding, finance, etc.) to identify and assess operational risks.
* Maintain and update operational risk registers, ensuring actions and controls are in place and monitored.
* Conduct risk reviews, site assessments, and internal risk audits where required.
* Support implementation of risk mitigation plans, controls, and corrective actions.

Skills & Experience Required
Essential
* Experience in risk management within education or a regulated environment.
* Good understanding of risk frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and internal controls.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate complex information into actionable insights.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing for senior audiences.
* Ability to build strong relationships and influence at all levels of the organisation.
* High attention to detail and a proactive, solution-focused approach.
Desirable
* Experience working in a college, university, or wider education sector.
* Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as Ofsted, ESFA, H&S, data protection, safeguarding, etc.
* Relevant qualification (e.g., IRM Certificate, risk management training, audit or compliance certification).
* Experience in business continuity, health & safety, or governance support.
