Job overview

This role will be based in Vantage Point House, Cwmbran.

The Assistant Director of Operations, Coordination & Integrated Care is a senior leadership role responsible for the delivery, performance and ongoing development of Emergency Medical Service Coordination and Remote Integrated Care services, delivered through Clinical Contact Centres.

The post-holder will provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring services meet national, organisational, quality and financial standards while driving improvement and transformation.

Working as part of the senior operations team, the role includes leading multidisciplinary teams, managing significant resources and budgets, and contributing to the strategic direction of services across Wales.

The post-holder will also participate in the Gold/Strategic on‑call rota and represent the organisation at a local and national level.


Main duties of the job

The post-holder will lead the delivery of Emergency Medical Service Coordination and Remote Integrated Care services, ensuring high‑quality patient care and performance against national standards. They will provide strategic leadership to multidisciplinary teams, including direct line management of senior operational leaders, and drive service improvement, transformation and redesign using performance and quality data.

The role includes leading operational planning and contributing to the Integrated Medium Term Plan, managing budgets and resources to ensure financial balance, and developing strong partnerships with Health Boards, commissioners and wider stakeholders. The post-holder will undertake Gold/Strategic Commander on‑call duties, including leading the response to major incidents, and will deputise for senior leaders while representing the organisation at senior forums.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This is a senior leadership role within the Operations Directorate, with responsibility for delivering high‑quality, safe and effective coordination and integrated care services. The post-holder will provide strategic and operational leadership, manage performance, lead service improvement and transformation, and work in partnership with internal and external stakeholders to support delivery of organisational priorities.

The role includes leadership of multidisciplinary teams, accountability for resources and service outcomes, and participation in senior decision‑making, including Gold/Strategic on‑call duties.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.


Person specification


Qualifications and/or Knowledge

* Masters level qualification in a relevant subject or equivalent experience working at a senior level in a service delivery environment.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Registered Nurse or Paramedic.


Experience

* Senior management experience in an operational emergency service delivery environment.
* Evidence of adopting best practice in devising and implementing change management programmes and associated.
* Experience of business planning, objective setting and performance management.
* Experience of working in partnership with staff side and understanding the principles of partnership working.
* Demonstrable record of delivering service improvement.
* Proven ability to define operational strategy and plans.
* Senior management experience in an ambulance environment.
* Senior management experience in a contact centre environment.
