Overview

The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust invites applications from highly motivated and suitably qualified individuals to the role of Senior Clinical Fellow in Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopy/Reconstruction Surgery. Applicants should have grounding in shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery and have obtained the FRCS or equivalent. The post aims to provide specialist training for individuals who have either completed a UK training program and possess a CCT or equivalent training program. The fellowship will provide exceptional training in current techniques in shoulder and knee reconstruction.

The arthroscopy unit consists of 7 arthroscopy surgeons (1 shoulder, 2 knee and 4 shoulder/knee) allowing the fellowship to be tailored to individual needs. The Fellow will gain experience in all aspects of arthroscopic shoulder surgery as well as arthroscopic knee surgery, including complex shoulder arthroplasty. A full spectrum of soft tissue knee reconstruction is undertaken within the unit, including multi-ligament reconstruction, cartilage regenerative procedures, corrective osteotomy, and patellofemoral realignment/stabilization. Unicompartment, patellofemoral, primary and revision knee replacement surgery will also be undertaken.


Responsibilities

* Undertake independent supervised operating lists and attend outpatient clinics, depending on experience.
* Engage in opportunities to undertake research and audit with involvement in ongoing or new research projects as a major component of the post.
* Present findings and produce publications based on their work.
* Perform clinical duties at the level of the Trust’s senior SpR trainees and undertake duties commensurate with individual skills under supervision of Consultants within the Arthroscopy service.
* Attend clinic and operating theatre sessions as described in the job plan and participate in attachments agreed at interview, tailored to the individual’s interests and training needs.
* Take part in on-call rota as required; participate in a late-August to April teaching timetable; and collaborate with other surgeons to maximise knee and shoulder arthroscopy experience.
* Contribute to teaching of medical students and postgraduate medical education.
* Engage in research, collaborative projects, audit, and continuing medical education as outlined with the Director of Research and Medical Director.
* Participate in the Hospital’s clinical audit programme and adhere to CME recommendations by the Royal College of Surgeons.
* Adhere to Equality, Diversity and Dignity principles and participate in induction, team meetings, and communication channels.


Qualifications

* FRCS or equivalent; grounding in shoulder and knee arthroscopic surgery.
* Postgraduate training evidence (CCT or equivalent) with suitable UK training program completion when applicable.

* The Fellow will be supported by a well-organised teaching timetable for the academic year (late August to April).
