An exciting opportunity has arisen in South Lanarkshire Justice Social Work Services for a Social Worker in the new Public Health Court and Recovery Service. Justice Services in South Lanarkshire are committed to a public health approach to supporting people in conflict with the law and people experiencing issues with substance use, as such our Court Services have been reviewed and will now be delivered differently.
South Lanarkshire Justice Service is responsible for Pan Lanarkshire Court Social Work Services in Lanarkshire meaning we provide Social Work services on behalf of North and South Lanarkshire Councils to Hamilton, Lanark and Airdrie Sheriff Courts. As part of the service review, we will be co located with our Recovery Orientated Justice Service (ROJS) and there will be crossover between the two services.
ROJS, in partnership with Hamilton Sheriff Court’s Pan Lanarkshire Alcohol and Drug Problem Solving Court, has launched Scotland’s first dual alcohol and drug problem solving court to address substance use related offending. This initiative shifts from punitive measures to a supportive system, offering structured deferred sentences with 6-9 months of intensive intervention.
A multi-disciplinary team, including social workers, health care professionals and support workers with lived experience, provide immediate support, addressing substance use alongside broader social and personal needs. The successful candidate would work as part of the ROJS Team and provide cover and assistance where necessary to the Pan Lanarkshire Social Work Team.
The team will be based within Regent House in High Patrick Street, where a new shared Justice hub has been created alongside Prison Throughcare, Specialist Assessment and Intervention Team and Caledonian Systems teams.
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Social Worker with recent experience of Justice Social Work, knowledge of the challenges associated with substance use and experience of managing risk.
