Role Commitment: Quarterly Board Meetings (daytime) in Inverurie, plus time to handle safeguarding matters.
Reporting to: The Board of Trustees.
GCRA is recruiting a Board Trustee responsible for Safeguarding. Prior board experience is not necessary; however, the ability to provide oversight, scrutiny, and direction is essential.
Founded in 2002 by three cardiac patients, GCRA is a health charity that provides Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation exercise classes in Grampian, led by trained specialists. Approximately 2,500 people have benefited from our classes, which include weekly 'Healthy Heart' and 'Strength & Balance' sessions across Aberdeen City & Aberdeenshire.
We have recently updated our Safeguarding Policy and Procedures and are enrolling with Volunteer Scotland Disclosure Services (VSDS) for PVG applications. We seek a Trustee with safeguarding experience to support our staff and Services Co-ordinator.
The Trustee will act as the lead contact for safeguarding, managing concerns about protected adults.
Duties include:
* Creating an inclusive environment in collaboration with staff and members.
* Leading the development and review of safeguarding policies and procedures in line with legislation and best practices.
* Disseminating safeguarding policies and resources organization-wide.
* Ensuring consistency of policies related to safeguarding adults.
* Advising on training needs.
* Managing reports of poor practice and abuse, including maintaining records.
* Chairing the Case Management Group to coordinate safeguarding cases.
* Liaising with external agencies like social care and police.
* Serving as the central contact point for safeguarding concerns.
* Providing advice and representing GCRA at external safeguarding meetings.
All Trustees must complete the OSCR Trustee Declaration and be willing to have their name listed on Companies House. Trustees are also required to join the PVG Scheme.
