About the Head of Media and Public Affairs
£64,210 per annum (pro rata) with excellent benefits.
London WC1 – mainly office based with a flexible hybrid working model (minimum 40% in office per 4‑week cycle).
35 hours per week – fixed‑term contract for 11 months (maternity cover).
As Head of Media and Public Affairs you will lead, plan, develop and implement effective media and public affairs strategies to actively promote the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and its priorities for maximum influence and impact.
The role involves working closely with journalists and media organisations to champion the College in the media as well as securing political support for our policy messages through stakeholder relationships within the UK Government, Whitehall and Westminster Parliament.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Policy & External Affairs, you will manage, direct and motivate the team to achieve performance goals, drive Westminster public affairs work, manage the out‑of‑hours media rota (on‑call duties), and oversee the Media and Public Affairs team budget.
Requirements:
* Degree or relevant professional experience.
* Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing proactive media and public affairs strategies with a strong track record in integrated communications.
* Leadership and performance‑management skills, ability to work with senior managers and influence stakeholders.
* Experience briefing senior staff to act as spokespeople and engaging directly with political stakeholders.
* Experience within an organisation delivering health or children’s services is desirable.
