Description 2nd Line Database Engineer Location - Stevenage Our purpose is to make the world more sustainable by building trust in society through innovation. As an 2nd Line System Engineer, you will contribute to this by working with new technologies within a team that values the sharing of ideas to build a better service. Your role will involve supporting our customers and systems to maintain Service level agreements and Key performance indicators. You must have a good understanding of IT support and infrastructure aligned to ITIL Processes. Able to follow current procedures and produce and document new processes for your area of responsibility. Supporting the team in all aspects of database support services but also assisting other teams where your knowledge can be utilised. You will be a good communicator and able to Collaborate with both colleagues and customers which is paramount in this busy environment. You will be working from assigned service desk tickets to Investigate, assess and resolve customer and system issues in timescales laid down in SLA’s in accordance with defined procedures and adhere to all IS Policy documents, including Change & Release, Configuration, and Security etc… Maintain the security of the network services in accordance with the Establishment’s Security Operating Orders and current process documentation. Your transferable skills and experience: • Understanding of SQL, DB2 or Oracle DB database management technologies. • Proficient with VMware and virtualization environments. • Basic scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar languages for automation and database task management. • Familiarity with both Windows Server and Unix/Linux operating systems. • Knowledge of VMware (to the extent of working with DB VM Payloads) with NetApp SAN and Cohesity backups This role will require you to become security cleared to a high level. Please visit National security vetting: clearance levels - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) Hours of work: Our support requirements are Mon-Fri between 0700 & 1900. You will cover 37 hours over the week with a typical day from 0700 – 1530 or 1030 – 1900. There is no weekend working, however overtime may be available, which may include weekends.
