About this opportunity
Working as part of our Housing Standards team, you will provide essential casework and administrative support to officers responsible for regulating housing conditions in the private rented sector across South Lakeland/Eden. This is primarily a back office role that helps ensure housing standards cases progress efficiently and that officers are supported to take appropriate action where housing conditions fall below acceptable standards. You will assist with the management of housing standards cases by coordinating information, preparing documentation and supporting communication with tenants, landlords and partner agencies. You will be joining a flexible, supportive, and responsive Housing Team where we work collectively to deliver the best outcomes for our residents.
In this role, you will:
* Provide casework support to Housing Standards Officers dealing with complaints about housing conditions in the private rented sector.
* Assist with preparing correspondence, statutory notices and other enforcement documentation.
* Maintain accurate case records and update the council’s housing systems and case management databases.
* Liaise with tenants, landlords and managing agents to gather information and support the progression of housing standards cases.
* Support the coordination of property inspections and follow‑up actions.
* Assist with evidence gathering and documentation required to support housing enforcement cases.
* Support the administration of enforcement related costs including processing invoices, maintaining financial records and assisting with recharge arrangements where the council has incurred costs through enforcement activity or works undertaken.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to help resolve housing issues and improve housing standards across the area.

We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive and interested in improving housing conditions across our communities. You will be someone who has strong organisational and administrative skills, is confident managing information and maintaining accurate records, communicates clearly and professionally with tenants, landlords and colleagues, can support officers with casework and regulatory processes, is comfortable working with digital systems and databases, can manage competing priorities and work to deadlines, works well both independently and as part of a team. Experience of housing, environmental health or regulatory services would be helpful but is not essential, as training will be provided.
