About us

Changing Lives is a nationwide charity helping people facing the most challenging of circumstances to make positive change - for good. We believe that everyone deserves a safe home, a rewarding job and a life free from addiction or abuse. We know that given the right support, anyone can change their life for the better.

Our services across the country help thousands of people each year who are experiencing a wide range of complicated challenges, including homelessness, drug and alcohol addiction, unemployment, involvement with the criminal justice system, sexual exploitation and domestic abuse. By focusing on their strengths, potential and opportunities, we support the people we work with to overcome their problems and live safe, successful, independent lives.

Our charity is powered by over 600 passionate colleagues who bring a diverse and inclusive environment for our colleagues to grow. We are proud to say that many have actual lived experience of the challenges faced by those we support. We are looking for committed and compassionate professionals to join our team, who share our enthusiasm for changing lives.

About the Service - Women and Children's Services

We run services and dedicated women’s centres for those who are at risk or struggling with challenging circumstances, including women in the criminal justice system and those with experience of trauma, selling sex or sexual exploitation.

We understand that women and girls have experiences which are different to men and can experience vulnerabilities that are specific to their gender. Childhood abuse and domestic abuse are common features in the lives of the women we support which impact on their health and wellbeing. Underpinning all our services is an in-depth understanding of trauma and a focus on recovery, resilience and community integration.

About the Job

You will be part of the new, York and North Yorkshire Women’s Alliance Service; a multi-agency consortium involving St Giles Trust, Waythrough and Changing Lives. The Women’s Alliance service will consist of a team of caseworkers providing person-centred support to all women across the county, including those facing barriers to engagement such as women residing in the most rural communities, and those belonging to minority groups. Referrals will be received via several pathways: North Yorkshire Police (as an Out of Court Disposal), from partner agencies, or from women choosing to self-refer/walk-in. You will work with service users to develop and maintain support plans and records, including risk assessments and safety plans. Working closely with specialist agencies, you will take a joined-up approach to holistically address a range of issues and needs in order for women to achieve outcomes and improve their overall wellbeing. You will encourage and support partner agencies to co-locate across all identified gender specific spaces, including the women’s centres, multi-agency drop-in sessions, and Liberty Links rural provision, committing to working collaboratively wherever possible. Whilst Scarborough Women’s Centre will be your base, there will be an element of outreach whereby you will drive St Giles Liberty Links Transit sized vehicle to meet with isolated women residing in rural communities and facing barriers to engagement. You will also work with your team to provide assertive outreach to young women and girls in targeted areas, raising awareness of risks around exploitation, county lines, toxic masculinity, gangs and unhealthy choices.

Essential Requirements:

All candidates must be female.

All candidates must possess a full clean driving license and be confident about driving a transit sized vehicle.

Vetting requirements are in accordance with Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) and will also include Enhanced Adult and Children DBS check.
