This business is a leading UK steel fabricator, specialising in bespoke pressure vessels, tanks, silos, air receivers and charcoal retorts for global petrochemical, water, HVAC, nuclear and other industries. With over 50 years of engineering excellence and full ISO 9001 accreditation, we deliver turnkey solutions—from survey and design to manufacture and installation—meeting all relevant British, European, and international quality codes
Role Overview
As a qualified MIG/TIG Welder, you will apply advanced welding techniques to fabricate high-quality pressure vessels and steel fabrications. You’ll ensure all welds meet strict specifications under BS EN and ASME standards, maintaining our commitment to unmatched quality and compliance
Key Responsibilities
* Perform high-quality MIG and TIG welding on carbon steel and stainless steel (e.g., P265GH, 430A, A516, 304L, 316L), vessel thickness up to 30 mm
* Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication sketches, welding procedure specs (WPS) and weld codes (e.g., BS EN ISO 15614‑1).
* Prepare joints—including cleaning, grinding, fixturing—and set up welding parameters.
* Execute welding in various positions (flat, vertical, overhead), ensuring minimal defects and optimal bead appearance.
* Inspect weld quality using NDT methods (e.g., visual, hydrostatic, dye penetrant, radiographic).
* Maintain welding equipment and shielding gas systems; monitor wire feed, gas flow, and electrode setups.
* Adhere to all on-site health, safety, and environmental protocols (HSE, EPA standards).
* Keep workspace clean, support team workflow, and assist with materials handling.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Proven experience using MIG and TIG welding on steel and stainless steel; experience with pressure vessel fabrication preferred.
* Welding credentials compliant with BS EN ISO 9606‑1, BS EN 287‑1 or similar.
* NVQ/City & Guilds or equivalent welding qualification; apprenticeship/training background.
* Strong skill in blueprint reading and precise measurement (micrometer, caliper).
* Familiar with welding procedure specifications and relevant codes (PD 5500, EN 13445, ASME VIII).
* Physically capable of heavy welding tasks and mindful of quality and safety.
* Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and team collaboration.
What We Offer
Permanent, full-time role within a well-established engineering firm.
* Competitive salary, shift flexibility, pension scheme, and free on-site parking.
* Professional development via coded welding progression and training.
* Opportunity to work on diverse, high-value projects—from nuclear and petrochemical to bespoke storage systems.
