Role Overview: As a Production Shift Assistant at Talon, you will play a vital role in supporting the smooth operation of the Production Department by providing flexible cover across the shift. You will assist with machine operation, material handling, quality checks, and general production duties, ensuring that output remains consistent and to the highest standards, even during periods of staff absence.
This is a hands-on, adaptable role suited to a proactive team player with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. You will work closely with the Production Shift Technician and other team members to maintain a safe, clean, and productive environment while upholding Talon's values of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Maintain raw material and masterbatch hoppers, ensuring they are filled with the correct materials in line with company procedures.
* Clear machines of all completed production and move finished goods to designated areas.
* Liaise with the packing area to support hopper refills and product movement.
* Assist with tool changes and obtain first-off production samples for quality approval.
* Monitor and respond to alarms on nailing machines, resetting them promptly to resume production.
* Clear product and nails from nail machines during and at the end of shift, ensuring only scrap nails are rejected and usable nails returned to production.
* Scan production tubs into Sage before they enter the packing area.
* Support in grinding sprues or defective product as required.
Machine & Equipment Monitoring
* Monitor all machines for cleanliness and operation; ensure drip trays are emptied regularly.
* Top up chillers as required throughout the shift.
* Perform visual checks and basic maintenance tasks under guidance from the Technician or Shift Leader.
Quality Control
* Check the quality of products against defined standards and complete relevant quality checklists or KPI documentation.
* Highlight and escalate any product quality issues to the Shift Technician.
Material Handling
* Assist with unloading deliveries of raw materials, packaging, and supplies.
* Check delivery notes and verify materials upon receipt.
Shift Coverage
* Provide flexible shift cover for production staff across all operator-level tasks during periods of absence or leave.
* Work across different shifts (e.g., days, nights) when required to maintain production continuity.
Additional Expectations
* Ensure the factory floor is kept clean, tidy, and compliant with Health & Safety and 5S standards.
* Demonstrate a positive attitude, teamwork, and willingness to support others.

* Be familiar with and adhere to all company Health & Safety and quality procedures.
* Carry out any other tasks as required to support the success of the production team and company goals.
Qualifications & Skills
* Practical, hands-on individual with good attention to detail.
* Able to work independently and show initiative when carrying out tasks.
* Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
* Must have or be willing to obtain a Forklift Truck Licence (training can be provided).
* Previous manufacturing or production experience is desirable but not essential if willing to learn.
