HM1451 – Machine Shop Team Leader (Poole)

My client is a specialist global engineering company looking to recruit a Machine Shop Team Leader who will work closely with senior management to achieve high levels of machine shop performance and meet business KPIs. The role includes additional training and career progression opportunities.
Remuneration & Benefits
* Base salary up to £55,000 per annum, plus paid overtime after 37 hours
* 33 days holiday with the option to purchase an additional 5 days

Working Hours & Shift Pattern
* 37 hours per week, double days pattern: early shift 6 am–2:15 pm (Mon‑Thu) + 6 am–2 pm (Fri)
* late shift 2:15 pm–10:15 pm (Mon‑Thu) + 12 pm–7:30 pm (Fri)
* 2‑week rotation
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, manage and develop a team of CNC Engineers across various shift patterns to achieve business KPIs.
* Maintain health & safety compliance and COSHH risk assessments.
* Plan and coordinate programme activities, including onboarding, appraisals, performance reviews and training needs.
* Manage employee relations, absence, disciplinary and grievance processes.
* Ensure team competency and monitor performance.
* Work with Planning to meet weekly delivery targets.
* Implement Lean tools and continuous improvement initiatives (VSM, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, error proofing, Kanban).
* Carry out root‑cause analysis for incidents.
* Lead shift meetings, toolbox talks and management meetings.
* Sustain equipment, work‑area standards and quality targets.
* Support recruitment, training‑matrix upkeep and workforce coverage.
Required Qualifications & Experience
* Completed apprenticeship or equivalent CNC programming qualification.
* Experience leading teams in a manufacturing environment.
* Strong leadership and team‑building skills.
* Knowledge of workplace health & safety regulations.
* Familiarity with modern lean manufacturing methods.
* Excellent organisational, time‑management and planning skills.
* Advanced IT skills: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
* Strong written and verbal communication in English.
* Experience in machine‑tool operation and maintenance.
