Overview
The post-holder will spend most of their time in clinical activities directly related to Dermatology, based primarily at the Department of Dermatology, Churchill Hospital, Oxford, with occasional duties at outreach clinics and other parts of the Trust. They will deliver 10 NHS PAs per week and maintain strong links with primary care, collaborating with and supervising an intermediate dermatology service.
Responsibilities
* Provide patient-facing care in outpatient clinics, including new referrals, follow‑up consultations, laser and surgical procedures.
* Attend and support PA sessions, nurse‑led clinics, and surgical lists supervised by consultants.
* Coordinate and participate in clinical audit programmes with registrars.
* Maintain and respond to email advice service, providing clinical input within 24‑48 hours.
* Stand in for ward rounds and in‑patient cover on the Churchill site or at John Radcliffe Hospital.
* Supervise the non‑resident registrar on‑call rota (1 in 13 basis) and contribute to the resident general medical hospital‑at‑night rota.
Training & Support
The department is part of the Oxford Training Rotation, sharing specialist posts with the John Radcliffe Hospital, Horton Hospital, Banbury and the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading. Registrars spend approximately 24 months in each department.
Outpatient Workload
Oxford Dermatology sees more than 48,000 patients per year, delivering a mix of new referrals, follow‑ups and procedures. Clinics are staffed by consultants alongside specialist or research registrars and ST1‑2 trainees.
