City of Wolverhampton Council is committed to supporting more local people into good jobs and training.
The Open Door work experience project is an innovative project to enable unemployed young people and adults to participate in structured work placements with the ultimate aim of finding employment. The placements will take place within key departments in the Council and a number of approved employers within the city, who are able to open up their workplace to enable local people to develop their skills and employment prospects.
Are you passionate about helping young people take their first steps into the world of work? Do you have strong organisational skills and a talent for building relationships? If so, we’d love to hear from you.
The City of Wolverhampton Council is recruiting an Open Door Work Experience Support Officer to join our dynamic team. This role supports our residents 18+—in particular our young adults aged 18 to 21—in accessing meaningful work experience placements across the city.
You’ll be the first point of contact for candidates, employers, schools, colleges, and internal departments—providing digital and face‑to‑face support throughout the work experience journey. From registration and onboarding to placement coordination and post‑placement reviews, you’ll play a vital role in helping participants gain confidence, develop skills, and move closer to employment.
Role requirements
* Level 3 qualification relevant to the role
* Previous experience of undertaking business support and administration tasks
* Proven experience of communicating with people at all levels and with different abilities, cultures and those where English is not the first language
For full details of the responsibilities and requirements of this role please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of residents across Wolverhampton. If you’re ready to be part of a supportive and forward‑thinking team, apply now and help us shape the future of work experience in our city.

Our working arrangements
All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for “touch down” space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
