Junior Overhead Line Engineer – National Power Networks

Overview
National Power Networks are looking for a Junior Overhead Line Engineer to join our growing team. This role involves supporting the design, planning, and delivery of overhead line (OHL) projects across the transmission and distribution network. You’ll play a key part in ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard, from initial planning through to site delivery.
What We’re Looking For
* Experience within the overhead line, utilities, or power sector.
* Alternatively, strong transferrable skills from a site-based OHL role and a desire to transition into an office‑based engineering environment.
* A good understanding of engineering principles and technical drawings.
* Strong organisational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and coordinate overhead line projects from design through to completion.
* Involvement in the production of project‑specific RAMS and HS documentation including temporary works, lift plans, etc.
* Manage procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractor services.
* Liaise with suppliers, clients, and internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery.
* Oversee and support site teams, ensuring works are carried out safely and in line with project specifications.
* Travel to site to monitor progress, resolve issues, and maintain strong communication between office and site teams.
* Contribute to scheduling, cost control, and project reporting activities.
Qualifications & Skills
* A basic understanding of engineering principles and overhead line design fundamentals is expected. Familiarity with OHL design software (e.g., PLS-CADD) is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical information clearly.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, attention to detail, and a commitment to health and safety.
* Ability to work effectively within a team environment and take ownership of tasks.
* A valid UK driving licence is essential due to national site travel.
* Enthusiasm for continuous learning and professional development.
