Legal Counsel: Cards and Payments
The role is based in the PayPoint head office in Welwyn Garden City and reports to the Head of Legal - Card Services Business. It is part of the wider PayPoint Group Legal Team comprising 10 lawyers.
Main Purpose of Role
* Handle legal and regulatory matters related to PayPoint Group’s Cards Business, including structuring regulated and unregulated activities under the Consumer Credit Act.
* Support PayPoint’s other FCA-regulated Payments businesses in collaboration with the legal team.
* Draft and negotiate contracts to support these businesses.
* Assist other PayPoint Group businesses as needed.
Main Responsibilities
* Support the main purpose of the role as outlined above.
* Provide regulatory input and negotiate commercial agreements.
* Advise on regulatory developments and brief business stakeholders.
* Research legislation, case law, and regulatory requirements to ensure accurate advice and procedures.
* Monitor legal and regulatory changes and assess their impact on the business.
* Support data protection matters under the review and management of the DPO.
* Collaborate with Legal and Compliance Teams to promote a unified approach.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
* Solicitor qualified in England and Wales, with at least 2 years post-qualification experience, or equivalent.
* Experience in drafting contracts and providing legal advice on commercial and regulatory issues.
* Experience working within FCA-regulated businesses, with a strong understanding of regulatory principles.
* Knowledge of GDPR, data protection, and data security issues.
* Effective negotiation skills and attention to detail.
Highly Desirable
* Experience advising on FCA regulatory matters.
* Experience with consumer credit and payment services is preferred but not essential.
* In-house legal experience.
