EQUANS is recruiting for a Mechanical Contracts Manager to be based in Belfast. This is a permanent full‑time role working 40 hours per week. A competitive salary and benefits package is offered.
General Overview
The Mechanical Contracts Manager is responsible for the overall management and successful delivery of contracts within a defined region or operating unit. The role involves leading a team of supervisors and operatives to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required standards of quality and safety. The manager also oversees client relationships, financial management, and ensures all work complies with legal and regulatory requirements. The position supports operational efficiency, client satisfaction, and business growth.
Key Accountabilities
* Contract Management: oversee delivery of all heating contracts within the assigned region or portfolio, ensuring all contractual obligations are met and projects meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
* Team Leadership: manage, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors and site operatives, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and high performance.
* Client Relationship Management: build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project goals, timelines, and expectations; act as the primary point of contact for all client‑related matters.
* Financial Management: manage project budgets, ensure work is delivered within financial constraints, monitor costs, approve expenditures, and work with the commercial team to maximise profitability.
* Operational Efficiency: drive operational excellence by optimising resource allocation, streamlining processes, and ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope; implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Health and Safety Compliance: ensure all work is conducted in compliance with the company’s health and safety policies and legal requirements; conduct regular audits and inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
* Risk Management: identify and manage risks associated with project delivery, including technical, financial, and contractual risks; develop and implement mitigation strategies to safeguard the company’s interests.
* Quality Assurance: oversee quality control processes, ensuring all work meets required standards and any issues are addressed promptly; ensure the delivery team adheres to company policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
* Reporting and Documentation: provide regular reports on project progress, financial performance, and key issues to senior management; ensure accurate and timely documentation of all project‑related activities.
* Business Development Support: contribute to business development by identifying opportunities for contract extensions, additional work, or new client relationships; support the bidding and tendering process as needed.
* Strategic Planning: contribute to the development of the company’s strategic goals and objectives, providing insights and recommendations based on contract performance and market trends.
* Any other management duties as required.

Requirements
Essential
* NVQ or equivalent qualification in HVAC or a related field.
* Gas Safe qualified.
* OFTEC qualified.
* SMSTS.
* First Aid certification, asbestos awareness, working at height, scaffold inspection, and other relevant health and safety qualifications.
* CSCS card – black / white.
* Experience in a supervisory role within the gas/mechanical industry.
* Strong knowledge of mechanical methods, materials, and industry practices.
* Understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices in the gas industry.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, operatives, and subcontractors.
* Proven ability to manage resources and coordinate on‑site activities effectively.
* Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to make decisions under pressure.
* Proficiency in basic IT skills, including the use of project management software.
Desirable
* NVQ Level 3 in plumbing & heating.
* Experience working within the social housing sector.
