Job Summary
We are looking to recruit an experienced Cardiac Physiologist / Healthcare Scientist to work in Echocardiography as part of our Diagnostic Cardiology team.

As a tertiary centre Sheffield Teaching Hospital, we deliver several regional services. By joining us, you could help deliver our comprehensive and expanding training programme and develop expertise in ACHD, PH and Pulmonary Hypertension, as Sheffield is one of Europe’s largest centres.
The post holder will undertake routine and complex diagnostic transthoracic echocardiography and cardiac ultrasound investigations and interpret results to provide an accurate clinical report that can be clearly understood by a physician not experienced in echocardiography and adheres to local and national guidelines.
Applicants should possess a BSc in Clinical Physiology, MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac, Vascular, Respiratory and Sleep Sciences) or a BTEC / HNC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurements and hold RCCP / AHCS / HCPC registration.

Main duties
Support the Cardiac Ultrasound Service for the STHT by providing a high standard of work within Echocardiography that meets organisational, professional and individual needs for the Diagnostic Cardiology Unit.
Provide leadership, training and education, enabling staff to develop the clinical skills and competencies required to deliver a high‑quality diagnostic echo service.
Work alongside senior team members to deliver an intensive in‑house Echo training programme and support the development of a regional Echo Training website.
Undertake clinical supervision and training of other qualified professionals (including physicians), junior and trainee physiological staff.
Liaise with the Lead Echocardiographer and Lead Trainer to maintain departmental and BSE guidelines and keep current clinical and technical practice.
Help develop specialist services and participate in CPD activities to maintain own competencies.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MSc Clinical Science (Cardiac, Vascular, Respiratory and Sleep Sciences), or a relevant Level 7 academic qualification, or a BTEC/HNC in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurements, or a BSc in Clinical Physiology with relevant experience and ability to demonstrate work at Master’s/Academic Level 7.
* SCST parts I & II (if applicable to qualification route).
* British Society of Echocardiography Adult proficiency accreditation.
* Professional registration with the Academy of Healthcare Science or Health and Care Professions Council.
Desirable
* Immediate Life Support.
* Teaching or managerial qualification/experience.
Experience
* Perform transthoracic echocardiograms to a high standard independently in accordance with BSE guidelines and departmental minimum standards.
* Demonstrate continuous professional development as per British Society of Echocardiography guidelines.
* Experience providing specialised, unsupervised diagnostic reports to an appropriate level and highlighting urgent findings.
* Professional membership of a relevant professional body obtained by examination (e.g., British Society of Echocardiography).
* Ability to deliver hands‑on training and support junior members of staff, specialist registrars or other medical professionals.
* Experience of providing a wide range of diagnostic investigations.
* Experience in supervision and assessment.
