Role Description
Role Overview: We are looking for a Health and Safety Technician Apprentice to join our health and safety team. This is a portfolio and evidenced based apprenticeship scheme, with a duration of around 24 months where you'll gain on-the-job experience, alongside completing your course work. Upon completion, you will be awarded a Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard in Health and Safety Technician certification.
As an Apprentice, you will assist the management team in the development, management, implementation and monitoring of the Safety, Health and Environmental Management System by updating systems in line with changes in legislation or best practice, delivering training, coaching operational teams and undertaking workplace inspections.
What You'll Do
* Provide advice on the practical implementation of the company’s SHE policies and processes, applying generic industry guidance to the workplace context.
* Identify hazards and evaluate associated risks.
* Support the practical application of workplace instructions and manufacturers’/suppliers’ instructions for safe use of equipment, materials and products.
* Support and assist in the implementation of SHE inspections and monitoring systems, balancing enforcement with internal support.
* Assist in monitoring, analysis of and reporting of SHE performance.
* Prepare and maintain records relating to safety, health and environmental matters that comply with legal and workplace requirements and are accessible to authorised personnel (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, Noise at Work, HAND, Environmental Permitting).
* Assist in establishing, managing and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders such as local authorities, Health and Safety Executive, Environment Agency, Occupational Health and Occupational Hygienists as required.
* Research Safety, Health and Environmental issues and best practices; review updates to regulations and workplace instructions from reliable sources.
* Assist with investigations of accidents, incidents, near misses and other incidents as directed.
* Learn to recognise where decisions have financial costs and impact on operational service delivery.
Who You'll Be
The HSE Apprentice should have achieved or be working towards a good standard of GCSEs including English and Maths and have knowledge of commonly used office computer applications. The Level 3 certification is equivalent to A Levels. A valid UK driving licence is required.
