Job Title: Wellbeing Practitioner (Part-Time)

Employer: Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan

Location: Vale of Glamorgan (community-based with some remote/home working as agreed)

Hours: 18 hours per week

Salary: £24,313 pro rata]

Contract: 1 year

About Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan

Mind in the Vale of Glamorgan is a local, independent mental health charity affiliated with Mind. We support people across the Vale to improve and maintain their mental health and wellbeing through a range of services, including information, advocacy, counselling, peer support, day services, and community engagement.

Job Purpose

The Wellbeing Practitioner will deliver emotional and practical, person-centred support to individuals and groups across the Vale of Glamorgan. This will include one-to-one sessions, group activities, psycho-educational courses, training, and tailored wellbeing support.

The post holder will work closely with colleagues who deliver Guided Self Help, Counselling, Peer Support, Social Prescribing, and Day Services, as well as with other agencies, to ensure individuals can access the most appropriate support for their needs, using knowledge of local communities.

They will also contribute to Connecting Within Communities by supporting people to reduce isolation, build confidence, and engage with meaningful opportunities.

Mind in the Vale is an established provider, working in partnership with primary and secondary care services, voluntary organisations, and community partners to deliver a joined-up, holistic approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Support

* Provide emotional and practical one-to-one support for people experiencing mental health difficulties.
* Facilitate group sessions, psycho-educational courses, and workshops to promote well-being, resilience, and self-management.
* Support individuals to set goals and develop personalised wellbeing/action plans.
* Provide practical assistance (e.g., signposting, form-filling, attending first sessions) to help individuals access appropriate services.

Working with Colleagues & Partners

* Work closely with colleagues and other agencies, including those delivering Guided Self Help, Counselling, Peer Support, Social Prescribing, and Day Services, to provide joined-up and holistic support.
* Share knowledge and insights to strengthen collaborative approaches across the organisation and with external partners.
* Build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of organisations, including primary and secondary care providers, community groups, and voluntary sector agencies.
* Contribute to team meetings, peer support forums, reflective practice, and service development.

Community & Partnership Working

* Support the Connecting Within Communities strand by helping people access local activities, volunteering, and peer networks.
* Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of community services and agencies to enable effective signposting and advice.
* Attend community events, meetings, and forums to represent Mind in the Vale, promote services, and strengthen local partnerships.

Training & Capacity Building

* Develop and deliver training sessions and psycho-educational courses (e.g., resilience, wellbeing, self-care, or mental health awareness) for individuals, groups, volunteers, and partner organisations.
* Support the development of peer learning, skills, and confidence-building within groups.
* Participate in ongoing professional training to maintain and develop skills relevant to the role.

Monitoring & Administration

* Record and monitor progress against outcome measures, including the Recovery Star.
* Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and use the organisation's database system in line with GDPR and data protection requirements.
* Contribute to service evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement.
* Always uphold safeguarding responsibilities.

Person Specification

Essential

Experience & Knowledge

* Experience of supporting people experiencing mental health difficulties.
* Understanding of mental health, wellbeing, and recovery-focused approaches.
* Experience of using outcome measures, particularly the Recovery Star.
* Knowledge of safeguarding principles and ability to respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
* Awareness of local services, community resources, and referral routes that support health and wellbeing.
* Knowledge of the communities we serve across the Vale of Glamorgan, including awareness of local needs, challenges, and opportunities.

Skills & Abilities

* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide both emotional and practical support.
* Ability to deliver one-to-one and group interventions.
* Strong facilitation skills and confidence in delivering training or workshops, including psycho-educational courses.
* Good IT skills, including use of databases, Microsoft Office, and online platforms (Zoom/Teams).
* Ability to maintain accurate, confidential records in line with GDPR.
* Organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage a caseload.

* Ability to support volunteers and/or peer mentors.
* Welsh language skills (spoken or written).
