A coordinating and supporting role embedded within the Risk & Compliance team. This person will serve as the internal process safety focal point, working cross-functionally to support production, engineering, and projects with risk assessments, process safety reviews, fire strategy, and compliance with COMAH expectations.
Responsibilities
· Coordinate and track process hazard analysis / process safety studies (e.g. HAZOP, LOPA, SIL) and follow-up actions.
· Support preparation and response to COMAH inspections and interventions.
· Maintain and manage internal standards, best practice guides, and compliance documentation.
· Work with production and projects teams to embed process safety into operations and design.
· Liaise with third-party consultants to scope and manage support efficiently.
· Assist with incident investigations and implementation of process safety improvements.
· Lead the review and ongoing improvement of the fire detection, mitigation, and control strategy.
· Provide input into projects and systems of work, for example, MOC (plant, equipment and organisational change), alarm management, and emergency planning etc.
· Lead internal audits with relevant personnel
· Communicate outcome of audits to the wider business as appropriate
· Monitor existing legislation, regulations and recommendations / good practice for process safety which impacts the company
· Monitor and provide information / advice for routine performance indicators
Qualifications
· Background in engineering or science (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent).
· Detailed knowledge and understanding of COMAH and major accident hazard risk.
· Experience working with HSE / EA COMAH compliance inspectors
· Knowledge of process safety principles and management systems (e.g., inherently safer design, ignition control, hierarchy of controls).
· Experience in process safety compliance and auditing
· Experience and knowledge of P&IDs and other technical drawings
· Good understanding of ALARP and what it means for COMAH & compliance
· Ability to work across departments and influence without direct authority.
