Overview

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.


The Role

The focus of this job is to provide additional health and social care support input as part of the Intensive and Unscheduled CAMHS, which will involve working closely with a variety of disciplines including nursing, Social Work, adolescent psychiatry and psychology. The post-holder will be expected to take part in a wide range of therapeutic activities as directed by a qualified member of staff and as identified in care plans, and also be able to demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

Duties will include offering telephone support to young people and their families when experiencing mental health crisis, engaging with health, social care and other professional agencies to support young people to improve their mental health, wellbeing and recovery. The post-holder will be expected to manage a range of duties delegated to them including participating in assessment procedures, accurate record keeping, and participation in team meetings. In particular the post-holder will be responsible for contributing to the care and support of vulnerable young people referred to the service.

The post holder is required to be able to undertake duties without direct supervision, working in partnership with patients, carers and other professionals/agencies in line with legislative frameworks, agreed standards and clinical policies. This involves working in a variety of home/near-to-home community environments, school settings and the secure estate within the NHSGGC area.


Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

* Location based in Templeton Business Centre
* Fixed-term Contract (12 months duration)
* Full-time position (37 hours per week)
* Shift pattern for this post are 9am to 8:15pm, including weekends


Key Responsibilities

The post-holder will be responsible for:

* Functioning as a support worker within a multi-disciplinary team, to a defined patient caseload.
* Contributing to the nursing assessment by implementing and reporting on aspects of the prescribed plan of care to the Case Coordinator / named nurse/ keyworker.
* Carrying out all relevant forms of nursing care pertinent to the needs of individual patients in the least restrictive and disruptive manner as possible.
* Identifying and responding to the health promotion needs of patients focusing on improving the mental and physical well-being of patients.
* Identifying and responding to the needs of patients which might be related to vulnerability, gender, health, domestic abuse, child protection.
* Developing effective professional relationships with patients and carers ensuring that care needs are identified and met within a participative framework demonstrating principles of equality, dignity and respect accounting for spiritual and cultural diversity. Working in partnership with other members of the wider MDT team to aid effective communication.
* Working within agreed parameters and under direct supervision undertaking therapeutic/ psychological / educational approaches to care with individuals and/ or group settings where required.


Knowledge, Training, Qualifications and/or Experience

Essential

* Working knowledge of mental health nursing care
* Working knowledge of mental health issues
* Evidence of using digital technology/ information systems/ email and basic applications
* Evidence of skills and behaviours that demonstrate effective written and verbal communication
* Evidence of skills and behaviours that demonstrate application of HCSW Standards and Code of Conduct

Desirable

* Educated to, or actively working towards SVQ3 /SCQF level 6
* Completion of a health/ mental health / social care programme or equivalent
* Knowledge of health and social care issues that impact on mental health and wellbeing
* Experience of working in the community environment
