This role will involve managing engineering and estates services across the hospital site, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure the highest standards of service delivery, compliance, and operational performance. The Senior Engineering Manager will be responsible for: * Provide effective communication with Managers, Senior Managers, and Directors across the Trust. Communicate highly complex and technical information to electrical and mechanical engineering teams. Engage with external bodies including equipment suppliers, architects, consultants, NHS estates, regulatory agencies, and emergency services to achieve desired outcomes. * Ensure all contractual and statutory requirements relating to buildings and their services are carried out and accurately recorded. * Manage and undertake the duties of the Authorised Person in line with hospital requirements. * Interpret and implement complex technical documents and drawings generated by external bodies. * Formulate, develop, and schedule strategic plans impacting the entire site while remaining flexible to accommodate future changes in legislation or guidance. Develop complex risk management strategies across the Estates function in line with statutory requirements. * Participate in the out-of-hours Estates Management on-call rota, providing managerial and technical direction to staff and contractors as required. * Lead, motivate, and coordinate staff, maintaining high morale and creating an environment that facilitates quality service delivery through strong technical guidance, leadership, and communication. Provide delegated leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Head of Estates. * Ensure maintenance, repair, and preservation of engineering services, plant, and equipment are carried out to agreed standards, on time, within budget, and consistent with patient, visitor, and staff safety. * Oversee inspections and specialist surveys, prepare annual and long-term maintenance programmes and budgets, and assess functional suitability of engineering assets. Implement planned preventative maintenance (PPM) systems and update work schedules and plant inventories. * Ensure emergency arrangements and contingency plans are in place to manage breakdowns, failures, and other incidents effectively. * Develop innovative approaches to service delivery, focusing on time, quality, and cost improvements. Manage environmental control, including monitoring and compliance with discharge permits and statutory requirements. * Participate in the recruitment, competency monitoring, and development of staff, including professional development plans, training, and skills gap mitigation. What we are looking for: * Relevant certifications in FM & Engineering or related fields (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, IWFM). * Demonstrated experience in a technical leadership role, preferably in healthcare facilities management (HTM01-08). AP qualifications are preferable. * Strong understanding of engineering principles relevant to hospital operations. * Experience managing compliance with standards, processes, and procedures aligned with Safe Systems of Work. * Expertise in audit preparation and action planning to address non-compliance. * Ability to identify early warning signs of technical issues and prevent Non-Compliance Records (NCR). * Strong analytical skills to assess labour loads and recommend competency levels for technical roles. * Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, engaging effectively with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and external partners. * Strong leadership abilities, proactive problem-solving, and a focus on compliance and operational excellence. * Willingness to adapt to changing environments and embrace new challenges.
